What's SUP? SUP is an acronym for Stand Up Paddleboarding. It is a relatively new sport, considered an offshoot of surfing. Stand Up Paddleboarders use a surf style board and a paddle to propel themselves through the water.
What is Yoga SUP? Yoga SUP is the practice of yoga on a paddleboard.
The Benefits of Yoga SUP While yoga on a stand up paddleboard may sound intimidating, it is actually a fun and easy way to take your yoga or exercise practice onto the water and develop a new skill. Here are the top five reasons you should OM SUP this summer.
Get Outside: Let’s face it, we only get a few months of nice weather in Ontario. Taking your yoga practice to the beach just makes sense. The great thing about SUP is that you get to spend more time outside.
Mindfulness: When you are on your board every breath and movement changes your balance and you must be aware of everything happening in the moment. This awareness develops your attention to the present, which is helpful on your board and throughout life.
Enhance Your Balance: Moving your yoga practice to a paddleboard means engaging your core muscles in order to maintain balance as you move through your practice.
Slow Down: Being on the board will naturally slow you down as you focus on each movement to maintain your balance. Slowing yourself down during yoga is a great way to practice slowing down in life.
It’s Fun: You’ll have a great time, meet new people, learn more about your body and develop a new skill. We can’t think of a better way to spend a summer day.
